Have a heavy load Django site? Then buy this book!

As one of the co-authors of Two Scoops of Django, I'm often asked questions related to increasing the capability of a Django-powered site to handle high loads. I always respond to these questions with this one, "Have you read 'High Performance Django' yet?" I'm only half-joking when I say that we considered replacing our own chapter on removing bottlenecks with a page that says, "Go buy this book."

This is because "High Performance Django" is a really good book. Its relatively narrow topic means the authors get to focus on their subject. They not only explore each sub-topic, they suggest and demonstrate how to use powerful tools. They work to change the thinking of the reader, providing not just information, but also the types of questions that need to be asked by the reader. That's because as each site is different, administering a load-heavy site can't be done out of a book full of recipes - we need to have the smarts to know how to explore problems and issues, then determine a fix. That's the approach of this book and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Little Django, Lots of General Info

This is less about Django and more about websites in general with their optimal setup. I was expecting some things that maybe 2Scoops might not have covered with regards to Django specifically, but there wasn't much. So, if you are looking for a quick book about optimizing your whole website, this is a pretty good book, but if you are looking for Django specifically, stick with 2Scoops.

Extremely useful, a mix of obvious and not-at-all-obvious solutions. When you get to the point where performance starts to matter with a Django site, this book will save you time, money, and stress. Fast read without all the fluff that tends to get stuffed into technical books.

An excellent book on Japanese Internment Camps

If you're writing a paper on Japanese Internment Camps, this book is really good. It superbly defines the generation gap of Japanese-Americans during the 1940's. In addition, the foreward to this book is well-written and very helpful. This book helps show what happened to the Japanese during World War 2.

This book presents a substantial description of the principles and applications of digital holography.
The first part of the book deals with mathematical basics and the linear filtering theory necessary to approach the topic. The next part describes the fundamentals of diffraction theory and exhaustively details the numerical computation of diffracted fields using FFT algorithms. A thorough presentation of the principles of holography and digital holography, including digital color holography, is proposed in the third part.
A special section is devoted to the algorithms and methods for the numerical reconstruction of holograms. There is also a chapter devoted to digital holographic interferometry with applications in holographic microscopy, quantitative phase contrast imaging, multidimensional deformation investigations, surface shape measurements, fluid mechanics, refractive index investigations, synthetic aperture imaging and information encrypting.

Martin is better at describing machines rather than people. Sadly, readers would rather learn something new about the people than about out-dated technology. Did you read that he thinks he's the most important member of the Beatles?

Interesting and Quick Account of George...Not Harrison That Is

If you are looking for insight to the Beatles, their lives and music, there are a lot of other books, and let's face it...George Martin was the "mentor, teacher, and icon" for the boys who really admired the work he did with the Goons when they were children. So although they worked together closely and George was part of the early "inner circle" he was not really privy to the boys private lives and inspirations, kind of an inner outsider who became their "musical errand boy" in other words, "George, make it happen." I believe the flaws in this book include a lack of insight to his developing creative relationship with Paul McCartney at the time of Pepper that really changed music and society in general, and the intense focus on his tragic EMI relationship that I also found disturbing but not surprising. But these are things that shaped history and provide Beatle fans with other pieces of the puzzle. If you want the inside look at George Martin's life before and after the boys, this is the only game in town and worth a read...which only required a few hours.

George Martin Book - Excellent

This book by George Martin is excellent. He walks through the history of recording music and includes with it the story of the Beatles. As a music lover, I found this book to be fascinating. I would imagine that younger people, who are merely familiar with CD recordings and itunes, would enjoy the technical challenges that were dealt with in earlier days of the recording industry. I found it extremely interesting to listen to the Beatles songs after I heard the methods used to create the sounds. Enjoy!

Robert Chuckrow has been a Taiji practitioner since 1970 and has studied Taiji under the late Cheng Man-ch'ing, William C. C. Chen, and Harvey I. Sober. He has taught Taiji extensively and has written four other books. He currently teacher Taiji in Westchester, NY.

Walking using taichi principles

Dr. Chuckrow's book extends the principles of taichichuan to walking for exercise. It includes discussions on alignment, footwear, balance, etc. It follows on and repeats some of the material from his "Tai Chi Book." It is not a book for the general reader, requiring some familarity with taichichuan nor does it discuss the training exercise called tai chi walikng. I recommend it for the taichichuan novice as a thoughtful example of how to extend one's experience with the form to other areas.
