A Total Steal

I was completely surprised when I saw this at Barnes and Noble today, and even more so when I looked at its contents. For $25 you get 40 high quality posters for all of the major Assassin's Creed games. Here's a short break-down of each one.

-18 Black Flag posters (a majority of them star Edward, but there's some great concept art pieces and a decent amount of the supporting cast).
-12 Assassin's Creed 3 posters (including the Tyranny of King Washington and Aveline).
-3 for Revelations
-3 for Brotherhood
-1 for Assassin's Creed 2 (which is a bit of a shame, imo)
-4 for Assassin's Creed 1
-1 starring Altair, Ezio, Connor, Edward, Aveline, and Nikolai Orelov (from The Fall and The Chain).

(No Desmond posters D:)

They're approximately 12" by 15.5", and are double-sided, so if you want to hang up multiples you may run into a tough decision.

But overall, you absolutely cannot beat what you're getting for the price. I hope they continue to do a second edition with AC5 and beyond.

Exceeds expectations.... wonderful gor any AC fan

Let me just start by saying this is awesome! I expected it to be good quality but when I got it it really exceeded my expectations. The color and image quality is outstanding and all posters are printed on cardstock-like material. I expected them to be on plain glossed poster paper. I do wish there were more posters from AC2 but since I am a fan of the entire series its not a big problem. The posters are printed front & back so if there are two on the same page you like... You may have trouble deciding. Great product and it would make a great gift for any Assassin's Creed fan.

My son really likes the poster collection (as do I). The only "complaint" is the fact that they are double-sided simply because he has trouble picking between some of them. Really nice collection though and would recommend for any AC fans :)

A Great Romp in the Nexus of Raw Adventure and Personal Salvation.

I saw the movie long (LONG) ago. It was a turkey. The novel, however, was marvelous. There is something of 'ship of fools' about it, and something of the standard survival story, and MUCH about the nature of heroism and cowardice. American cavalrymen in Mexico during the Revolution of 1910, 'Black Jack' Pershing gearing the American public up to enter WWI, the interface between the press and reality, this is a terrific read. I just finished 'The Homesman', which is what got me ordering Swarthout novels. I wish he'd written twenty others. Anyone interested in the west and in that time after it was conquered but not yet fully settled will find a home in Swarthout's writing. Great stuff.

Solomon's Usual Brilliance

I am constantly amazed at Andrew Solomon's ability to inject evocative language into what could be a potentially dry and clinical subject.

As expected, there are some 1 star reviews by people who a) Are fighting an ideological war against biological psychiatry (usually Scientologists) or were b) expecting a "self-help" book. If you are thinking of buying The Noonday Demon as a self-help book, put it down now and look elsewhere (I recommend The Untethered Soul for this if you are looking for a self-help book).

I am frankly amazed at some of the 1 star reviews claiming that Solomon is pushing antidepressants onto the depressed. I found the entire book incredibly balanced. The only scathing comment I found was a (deserved) disparaging comment regarding Peter Breggin. The book features a range of positive, neutral and negative experiences regarding drug treatments. It mentions people getting helped by herbal treatments.

Great read for this suffering with anxiety/depression

I have been dealing with anxiety and depression for years and this book really helped me realize that I'm not alone. This book also shows how even someone with severe anxiety and depression have found ways to push on. It would also be a great book for family and friends of someone suffering from anxiety/depression as it accurately and emotionally explains what people with anxiety/depression sometimes go through. I have yet to have any of my loved ones read it yet but I can imagine it would be very eye opening to them. This might not be the best book to read during a particularly difficult time because the author describes in great detail some of his darkest moments and that may be a trigger for some people.

About the Author

Se-Kwon Kim, Ph.D., is a professor of marine biochemistry in the Department of Chemistry, Pukyong National University (PKNU), Busan, South Korea. Dr. Kim received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from PKNU and became a faculty member there. He conducted his postdoctoral study at the Bioprocess Laboratory, Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois USA (1988-1989). He became a visiting scientist at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada (1999-2000).

Dr. Kim was the editor-in-chief of the Korean Journal of Life Sciences (1995- 1997), the Korean Journal of Fisheries Science and technology (2006- 2007) and the Korean Journal of Marine Bioscience and Biotechnology (2006- present). To the credit of his research, he won best paper awards from the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) and the Korean Society of Fisheries Science and Technology (KSFST) in 2002.

His major research interests are investigation and development of bioactive substances derived from marine organisms and their application as cosmeceuticals and nutraceuticals via marine bioprocessing and mass production technologies. He expanded his research fields into the industrialization of antiphotoaging and photoprotective substances from marine organisms.

He has authored over 450 research papers, holds 72 patents, and has written or edited more than 30 books.

Nice book and easy to read and follow

Nice book and easy to read and follow. Makes sense to walk and pray based on what you believe or think of an affirmation while you are walking. I got the book as Herbert Benson made reference to it in his book. When I jog or walk, I think a healing affirmation to my self. I believe this helps to elicit the relaxation response. It's a walking meditation. Yet, I am fully aware of when I cross the street or of where I am walking or jogging. It does work better it a park or hiking trails though.

"Is it weird? I never laugh"

The dialogue in Intense is brief, but the words can pack such an emotional wallop. In just that sentence, we can get a glimpse into the kind of miserable life Jiwoon goes through as the Boss' slave. Because that's what Jiwoon is, a slave that quietly follows and mindlessly obeys whatever that piece of s**t Boss demands. As Soohan and Jiwoon's relationship deepens and becomes physical, we find out that the rumors are true. The young, strange, beautiful boy is regularly sexually abused by the Boss. He has been so emotionally and physically stomped on, he has a hard time even understanding that what the Boss does to him isn't normal, and with tenderness, Soohan manages to open him up to an actual loving relationship. But not everything is going well, the madam has caught up to their secret trysts, and worse, the Boss is out of jail and calls Jiwoon back. What will happen to these sad, beautiful boys and their seemingly doomed love? I want to find out, but at the same time, I'm afraid to find out. What a wonderful piece of storytelling.

I was honestly surprised this series didn't go as dark as it seemed like it might

The plot and character development might take awhile to get going, but the two main characters are endearing enough to get you through it all. I was honestly surprised this series didn't go as dark as it seemed like it might. Happy it didn't, though, since it wasn't necessary. The boys' pasts appear dark enough as it is. The art is beautiful, in some parts breath taking. The love scenes were, in a word, INTENSE.

Continuing with a discussion of the conditions for curiosity and its satisfaction, Inan argues that the learning process―starting in curiosity and ending in knowledge―is always an effort to transform our inostensible terms into ostensible ones. A contextual account is adopted for the satisfaction of curiosity. It then discusses the conditions of successful reference to the object of curiosity and its presuppositions. The book concludes with a discussion on the limits of curiosity and its satisfaction.

Odd as it may be, curiosity, which deserves to be a central theme in philosophy, has been neglected for so long only to be remembered by a few scant remarks in the history of philosophy. Considering this neglect, Philosophy of Curiosity is without precedent in addressing the subject in a comprehensive manner. It will leave the ones who want to work in this area with a jump start as well as igniting curiosity about the subject for newcomers. About the Author
Tennessee Williams was born in 1911 in Columbus, Mississippi, where his grandfather was the episcopal clergyman. When his father, a travelling salesman, moved with his family to St Louis some years later, both he and his sister found it impossible to settle down to city life. He entered college during the Depression and left after a couple of years to take a clerical job in a shoe company. He stayed there for two years, spending the evening writing. He entered the University of Iowa in 1938 and completed his course, at the same time holding a large number of part-time jobs of great diversity. He received a Rockefeller Fellowship in 1940 for his play Battle of Angels, and he won the Pulitzer Prize in 1948 and 1955. Among his many other plays Penguin have published Summer and Smoke (1948), The Rose Tattoo (1951), Camino Real (1953), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1955), Baby Doll (1957), Orpheus Descending (1957), Something Unspoken (1958), Suddenly Last Summer (1958), Period of Adjustment (1960), The Night of the Iguana (1961), The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore (1963), and Small Craft Warnings (1972). Tennessee Williams died in 1983.

Nina Baym (Ph.D. Harvard) is Swanlund Endowed Chair and Center for Advanced Study Professor Emerita of English and Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of The Shape of Hawthorne’s Career; Woman’s Fiction: A Guide to Novels by and About Women in America, 1820–1870; Novels, Readers, and Reviewers: Responses to Fiction in Antebellum America; American Women Writers and the Work of History, 1790–1860; American Women of Letters and the Nineteenth-Century Sciences and most recently, Women Writers of the American West, 1833–1927. Some of her essays are collected in Feminism and American Literary History; she has also edited and introduced many reissues of work by earlier American women writers, from Judith Sargent Murray through Kate Chopin. In 2000 she received the MLA’s Hubbell Medal for lifetime achievement in American literary studies.

Wayne Franklin (Ph.D. University of Pittsburgh) is Professor and Head of English, University of Connecticut. He is the author of James Fenimore Cooper: The Early Years (the first volume of his definitive biography, from Yale University Press), The New World of James Fenimore Cooper, and Discoverers, Explorers, Settlers: The Diligent Writers of Early America. She is presently at work on two books: Mark Twain Versus God: The Story of a Relationship, and, with Sara S. Hodson, The Photography of Jack London. She is a member of the Executive Board of the American Literature Association and founder and Executive Coordinator of the Jack London Society.

Patricia B. Wallace (Ph.D. Iowa) is Professor of English at Vassar College. She is a contributing editor of The Columbia History of American Poetry; her essays and poems have appeared in such journals as The Kenyon Review, The Sewanee Review, MELUS and PEN America. She has been a recipient of fellowships from the NEA, the Mellon Foundation, and the ACLS.
