"Greg Taylor is the up-and-coming author in this field, and what he has to say makes fascinating reading." -- Graham Hancock

From the Publisher

"Greg Taylor is the up-and-coming author in this field, and what he has to say makes fascinating reading." -- Bestselling author Graham Hancock.

In 2004, Greg Taylor decoded clues left on the cover of The Da Vinci Code to reveal the topics of the sequel to Dan Brown's bestseller. Five years before publication of The Lost Symbol, he wrote a book (Da Vinci in America, subsequently republished as The Guide to Dan Brown's The Solomon Key), correctly predicting that Freemasonry, Washington, D.C., the House of the Temple, Kryptos and many other locations and historical elements would play a part in the new book.

Now, in his revised and updated The Guide to Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, Taylor gives the ultimate guide to Dan Brown's latest bestseller. From Noetic Science to the influence of Freemasonry and Deism on the Founding Fathers, the Guide fills in all the details so that you have a better understanding of many strange and secret topics that are covered in The Lost Symbol.

Greg Taylor is the perfect tour guide to The Lost Symbol.

From the Author
"The controversial storyline of The Da Vinci Code has catalyzed a re-evaluation of the ‘history ’which many of us were taught in school. Dan Brown’s next book, The Solomon Key, is set to act in the same manner upon the history of the United States – outlining the Masonic ideals behind the founding of the nation, and which may still have an influence today through powerful secret societies like ‘Skull and Bones’. I’m pleased to offer this primer to the ‘hidden history’ of the United States of America, which will be a great resource for understanding the topics in Dan Brown’s next bestseller."

Fantastic companion piece to Dan Brown's next novel!
By J. Young
Being a student of "alternative history", in the same vein as Dan Brown, and being a reader of The Daily Grail, Greg Taylor's alternative news website, I am anxiously awaiting Brown's next edition. After getting Greg Taylor's book, I am even more excited, but much more prepared!

Greg takes us through many possible twists and turns of the next Brown novel. Even if Greg's ideas and possibilities are not included in the novel, I learned so much and found many other books I needed to read, study, and add to my personal library. I feel more prepared for Brown's next book and will not have to stop and look up nearly as much information as I go through the story.

Taylor's book is well written, well noted with a great bibliography! One you will want to use as a "wish list" and study guide. I thoroughly enjoyed it! If you're just a book worm and have enjoyed Brown's books, get this one and see if Greg turns out to be correct in what he believes the story line might be and the history intertwined within.

Liked it so much I bought 2!
By Regina Shultz
Greg Taylor is not a newcomer to these subjects jumping on the Da Vinci Code bandwagon. Greg has many years of scholarly work to back up his views and enough research to fill several books. I look forward to reading them all.

I am a long time reader and fan of his Daily Grail web site and continue to be amazed at the volume of research and facts Greg has access to. His readers had information into the background of the Da Vinci Code long before Dan Brown's book came out. If you want the real inside scoop into the heart pumping, mysterious adventures, look for this name...Greg Taylor.

From School Library Journal
reSchool-Grade 2-How does one address the attacks of September 11, 2001, in a picture book for young children? Patel's efforts to make her own peace with the subject have resulted in a book that does so quite effectively. Her tissue-paper collages depict, at first, a world that is "very big, and really round, and pretty peaceful." The white expansive backgrounds allow viewers to focus completely on the images and message. The author goes on to explain that "sometimes bad things happen because people act in mean ways and hurt each other on purpose." (Even preschoolers know this to be true.) The accompanying scene is simply a collage outline of America. Patel then offers a variety of ways that children, or anyone, could help the world: sharing, playing and laughing, taking care of the Earth, and being kind. Concluding pages point to the strength of the goodness that exists; listeners are reminded that they are part of that. Short sentences build into longer, cumulative lines; this repetition plugs into a familiar, oral tradition, while providing reinforcement for the ideas. Both this textual pattern and the circular, connected lines of the art break at the delivery of the terrible news. They resume, subtly, in the denouement. This book will be welcomed by those who want to mark the anniversary of the tragedy with children; it is worth noting that it would also be useful to open a dialogue in the context of any violent act.

Review
Patel . . . does not dwell on the tragedy [of September 11th]. Instead she encourages children to be kind, laugh, play, nurture the Earth. Simple suggestions? Yes, simple ideas, told in simple words for a complex world... The book's beauty is in its message of hope. -Times Union, Albany, New York

From the Publisher
This remarkable book already has touched thousands of lives with its inspirational message and stunning images. While 'on that day' originally was a response to the 9/11 tragedy, it offers a heart-warming reminder about how we can live our lives, and face up to tragedy and disaster, without losing hope, or faith in humankind.

A Brilliant Book of Hope and History
By Susan T. Kraft
On That Day by author and illustrator Andrea Patel is a treasure of a book for families, libraries, and especially schools. Through the images of the media almost every citizen of the world became an unwilling participant in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On That Day is a tribute to the power of goodness in the world that compensates for even the most destructive events. As an elementary school, our students benefit from annual reading of this story to help each young citizen construct meaning and create the history of 9-11. Ms. Patel's selected text engages all listeners and is inspirational to read. Her colorful, collaged illustrations suggest the text's images while offering a spring board for further discussion. As you read the author's notes, you will recognize your own feelings from "that day." This story is not only well crafted, but also timeless, in that it can transcend to related topics of peace, hope, and love. In addition to being a Reading Rainbow selection, On That Day is destine to become an award winner. We wait for future efforts from this writer with great anticipation. Andrea Patel truly is a very gifted author and illustrator who shares her stories brilliantly

A Ground Breaking Learning Tool!
By Amazon Customer
When this book was shown to me in its originial copy, i was blown away! I couldnt believe that the author could have envisioned something so amazing! I was astonished by how she captured the tragedy of Sept 11th in pictures and gave words that matched so perfectly in how to teach your child about something so unthinkable. I think that every public school that deals with children from age 3-7 should have this book as a teaching aide in their school. If only people interested in buying this book could have seen the reactions it got from college level students, they would see how much this children's book really helps to understand tragedy. This is a MUST BUY!

OnThat Day Again
By A Customer
I am 6 years old and this book was easy for mee to read. I didn't want to read it at first because the planes and the towers scare me. I'm still scared but I know I can do things to make the world better and baby children won't have to be scared again like I am. The colors in the book need to be better. the blue was really purple. all of the pictures were beautiful. The World Trade Center picture helps me remember how beautiful it was. All my friends read this book and feel better about the world.

An excellent and enjoyable collection of the Titans!!!
By bradbrewing
I've read the strip on the website. This tome provides a high quality image as well as several bonuses than just the first series. If this is the quality I get with each Table Titan volume, I will begin to support its future volumes. Though its built around characters playing DND, there is so much more than that, and if you are into the fantasy genre or gaming in general, you will adore this book. Titans Never Quit!!!!

Fun and hilarious comic for DnD fans, though non-DnD-ers will enjoy it as well
By Kenya Starflight
When I first picked up this graphic novel, I had no idea it was based on a webcomic -- I was simply intrigued by the art style and the fact that it was a graphic novel about "Dungeons and Dragons" players. I'm only passingly familiar with "PvP" and hadn't read the "Table Titans" spinoff, but figured I could give the guy's work a shot. DnD is a topic long regarded as "dorky" and "geeky," but is ripe for potential in both dramatic and humorous terms, and I was eager to see what kind of story "Table Titans" would shape up to be. And I was pleasantly surprised to find it was both a fun adventure story and a hilarious read, and while DnD fans will get the most out of it, it's still readily accessible to people not familiar with the game as well.

The titular "Table Titans" are a band of three DnD players out to win the prestigious Winotaur, a trophy given to whichever adventure party can rack up the most prestige points -- cynical and victory-hungry Alan, his long-suffering buddy Andrew, and gung-ho character-driven Val. When they take up a new adventure with a new Dungeon Master, new characters, and a new teammate in the form of goofy newbie Darby, they find their new characters tackling a village beset by a murderous beast, and must not only contend with some of DnD's most infamous monsters but with a plotting mayor, a former adventurer who knows more than he lets on, and each other's shenanigans. And that's not even taking into account the nasty attitude of the leader of their worst rivals, the Dungeon Dogs...

I've only seen occasional "PvP" strips, but it looks like the art style of "Table Titans" tones down the extreme stylized look of "PvP." The characters look more human and less cartoony, though not to the degree where they fall into the Uncanny Valley, and environments, objects, and characters all hold more detail than "PvP" tends to provide. It hits a nice balance between realistic and stylized, and is a fun and dynamic style that fits the subject matter of an adventure comic well. And the colors are well-done as well, colorful without being garish.

The characters are a fun bunch too -- they fit some of the standard roles one often sees in DnD groups, but have their own personality quirks that make them unique. Whether they're trying to find loopholes in the game rules, enthusiastically delving into their characters, or just delighting in throwing the adventure off the rails, they're obviously having fun, even if it's at the expense of a long-suffering DM, and it's hard not to smile at that. And while the "villain" is one of those "love to hate her" types, she does show a snippet of humanity as well, not just being a stock bully or bad guy.

The adventure itself is fairly cliche, but that's part of the point -- DnD is rife with cliches and tropes of fantasy, especially given that the characters are playing a pre-fab module instead of a custom adventure. The fun comes from throwing a group of people with modern-day sensibilities and quirky personalities into said cliche-fantasy world, and seeing how they react to it. And it is delightful.

As a bonus, this volume comes with a short outline of how "Table Titans" came to be (a spinoff of Scott Kurtz's aforementioned "PvP" comic), as well as a handful of strips detailing some of the Titans' adventures from the webcomic. There are also character sketches showing the development of the designs, and even a section of DnD stories shared by readers from the website.

If you're a DnD fan, "Table Titans" will be a delightful read for you, and you'll probably recognize some of yourself or your fellow gamers in the characters. Even if you're not a fan of the game, however, this is a highly enjoyable comic, with fun art and characters and a story that is shaping up to be an epic one, both in-game and in "real life." I intend to follow this one...

Design as Art (Penguin Modern Classics), by Bruno Munari

One of the last surviving members of the futurist generation, Bruno Munari's Design as Art is an illustrated journey into the artistic possibilities of modern design translated by Patrick Creagh published as part of the "Penguin on Design" series in Penguin Modern Classics. Bruno Munari was among the most inspirational designers of all time, described by Picasso as "the new Leonardo." Munari insisted that design be beautiful, functional, and accessible, and this enlightening and highly entertaining book sets out his ideas about visual, graphic, and industrial design and the role it plays in the objects we use everyday. Lamps, road signs, typography, posters, children's books, advertising, cars, and chairs—these are just some of the subjects to which he turns his illuminating gaze. How do we see the world around us? The Penguin on Design series includes the works of creative thinkers whose writings on art, design, and the media have changed our vision forever.

About the Author
Bruno Munari (1907-1998) was the enfant terrible of Italian art and design for most of the 20th century, contributing to many fields of both visual (paint, sculpture, film, industrial design, graphics) and non-visual arts (literature, poetry). He was twice awarded the Compasso d'Oro design prize for excellence in his field.

Where are you, Bruno?
By Mnemosine
I find it strange that this book is not available except for used copies printed in Canada around 20 years ago. I decided to study design after reading this book, even though I grew up being told I would be an architect or a writer.
On the visionary chapter titled "what is a designer", Munari made it clear to me that design is a much needed public and collaborative art. He wrote as translated to english in 1966: "Art is once more becoming a trade, as it was in ancient times when the artist was summoned by society to make certain works of visual communication (called frescoes)..." and keeps going. It never made sense to me that art could only be self absorption hidden in galleries, but I guess that is yet another kind of trade.
He writes with humour and honesty, and keeps me focused on my discipline. I owe Munari a great deal.

An indispensable collection of thoughts for the design thinker...
By J. Chan
This is a review for the new edition of this book by Penguin:

Part social commentary in a world of design, part designerly musing, and part thoughtful criticism at a world filled with abused objects, Munari's new publication by Penguin is a welcoming oasis of short essays (many merely one page long concisely argued and written) to the tyranny of cognitive science and user research tomes dominating design thinking today (think Norman and IDEO combined).

Clearly, Munari was writing in and for another period. That was a period spearheaded by designers-thinkers from the ranks of Nelson, Eames, Maldonado, Rittel, Bill, Aicher and Dreyfuss. Like Munari, these designers offer the insight that acute observation combined with thoughtful reflection of the material world is one of the most powerful forte of a designer.

In this book, I like the Munari's insight of 'wearing' best. He asks us to look at how objects become worn in their everyday use. Should we design objects on the sole merit of personal aesthetics and upon the Platonic plane of Ideal Geometry? Or should we design objects according to a limited sampling of user-needs study? Or as Munari suggests, should we design objects according to how it has been worn across time?

Munari did not answer his question (neither would I!). But it is this pensive quality of his work that merits his presence in the mind of every design thinker--a mind that seeks to ponder the thoughts on design across time.

Like the previous books
By Katarina Ortmann
Like the previous books, it's very interesting, very informative and sheds light into a culture we don't hear a lot about.

This installment wasn't as spellbinding to me as the previous ones, but still a very interesting and at times heart-breaking read.

I have loved the Princess books ever since I got my hands ...
By Ida Helleskov
I have loved the Princess books ever since I got my hands on the first one during a summer vacation at my grandmother's house. I have read the first one many times, both intrigued and horrified by the world it presented to me. Years after, I discovered the next two books in the series which may or may not have made me do a victory dance at the library where I found them. When I found this on Amazon I bought it without a second thought and it did not take me many days to read.

The thing I loved about the first three books are that they are personal. They are mainly about one family and the differences and problems this family and its members face in relation to femal oppression. We hear about friends, family members, slaves, people who are in direct contact with the Princess and her husband and children. The horrors are real, but it doesn't have a newspaper-like quality because the stories told in the books are in direct relation to the main characters.

This book was different to me. Even though it did start off in the same tone as the other books, telling about the family and the internal struggles within. However, it soon began to feel a little impersonal to me. The stories (and they were truly horrible) had less and less to do with the princess and more to do with general oppression and terror on women. While this is also a very important topic to shed light on, it felt a bit off to me, perhaps because I have gotten used to the personal stories in the first three books.

Despite the book being less personal than the other three, it was a great read. It is hard to read stories like the ones in this book and know that they are not single cases but, unfortunately, everyday life for many women around the world. It's hard to say that I enjoyed reading it because of the subject matter it touches upon, but it is a well written book and I believe it deal with a very important topic.

Another great novel!
By mwarmin1
The second installment of the popular Darksword novels takes Joram, Saryon, Mosiah, and Simpkin through an unexpected twisting and turning of events. Our party leaves the Sorcerer's camp for the city of Merilon, where Joram plans to seek his birthright. On the way, they meet Prince Garald of Sharakan, who takes the time to help Joram in a way no one has yet been able to. Merilon brings many hardships for the group; Saryan is suffering with internal conflict to the point he is constantly ill, while Mosiah feels out of place and is eager to leave the city. Joram is eager to seek his fortune, but falls in love in the midst of everything. Simpkin, of course, is doing what Simpkin does best -- being himself.
Doom of the Darksword is an intriguing sequel, rife with action, suspense, and deception, including the amusing Illusion of a Thousand Mosiahs. A riveting climax is built through the event commerorating the Dead Prince and culminates in the unexpected Turning to Stone. Joram learns his true birthright and Saryan finally finds peace. Weis and Hickman have written another brilliant novel, one that touches the heart and leaves you begging for more.

Return To Merilon
By AliGhaemi
Joram, Saryon, Mosiah and Simkin enter the enchanting and magical city of Merilon. They have left the technologists, and Blachloch's corpse, behind.

En route, the dead man, the suffering catalyst, the devoted companion and the baffling magician are diverted to the enemy kingdom of Sharakan where they meet, befriend, rest and train with Prince Garald and his handpicked Cardinal Radisovik. It is here that we are given a glimpse at the true power of the darksword and the real nature of Simkin.

Returning - for some a first visit - to Merilon where Joram hopes to discover and claim his birthright is the bona fide beginning of the story the first part of which is the serendipitous meeting of Joram and Gwendolyn at the gates of the capital city. Matters, however, seem to be falling apart almost as soon as they appear to be improving. Much is revealed in discussions, investigations, at the castle and at Bishop Vanya's surreptitious hall where he passes judgment. Many positions are weakened and many others' seem to be lost forever.

As an aside, shrewd readers might have noticed several similarities between this land and earth. While names like Gwen, Lord Samuels and Maria or plants like dahlia and honeysuckle might be easy giveaways, the mention of an ancient history crammed with weaponry and a medical reference to Hippocrates are also clues to the same. Elsewhere, a discussion of salvation through divine grace versus as a reward for deeds, which occurs early in the Volume, hints at the personal beliefs of co-author Tracy Hickman. He is, of course, not only one of the fantasy genre's leading authors, but also a devout follower of LDS.

With much explained and the story moving fast the reader is left with a cliffhanger sure to be resolved in the customary third book of a fantasy trilogy. Triumph of the Darksword (Darksword Trilogy, The) will impart how the balance of power will be apportioned.

A satisfying read.
By SC buyer 2011
If you like stories which contain a plot within a plot within a a plot along with several subplots, then this is your kind of story. All the plots contribute to the story line, and gradually the author braids all these strands into one neat fabric.
The only downside to this book is that you really need to read the prequel, and then plan to read the next book in the trilogy to learn how all the various strands come together in a satisfying conclusion.
Over all, a very satisfying tale, that keeps you engrossed, right up to the end, with no nauseating "lessons" in "green living", "liberal morality", "conservative morality" or politics that often show up in current writing.
